Celebrating creativity and innovation beyond the pass mark
ePortfolio Button with new border.pngThe concept of a digital portfolio has existed for many years in terms of document and file storage. However, with technology advancing at such a rapid pace, there is now a greater demand for technology to be portable, accessible and cloud based. This is reinforced by the fact that our students are very much considered the 'net-generation' with a desire to share, follow and comment in an online environment. ePortfolios also allow for students to showcase their creativity and innovation that extends beyond the class assessment or project. There are great tools out there and with Monte having a Moodle-based LMS, Mahara was a logical choice.

Monte has adopted the use of Mahara as a platform for digital portfolios (ePortfolios) for the last 18 months. Our Year 10 students have just completed a nine-month Personal Project (IB MYP) and have used Mahara to collate their files, resources and journal reflections as part of their project. Other faculties like PDHPE, Science and Music have also begun making use of Mahara. In addition, we've also started to trial the integration of the PortfolioUp! app with our Mahara system which allows students and staff who have an iOS device to upload photos and videos directly from their iPod Touch, iPhone or iPad.

Adobe Acrobat Pro has a very useful portfolio feature. Our senior Biology students are required to create a portfolio of media articles relating to their course. Traditionally this has been a "pen and paper" exercise, however in 2013 we are going to trial using Acrobat Pro. You can download a copy of the assessment task details here. If you are interested in learning more then this series of Adobe videos may be useful. A copy of my Photoshop portfolio is available here or here (107MB download).
